If you are fairly comfortable with Computers and the internet, you can easily learn how to design a website today. Plenty of resources in the form of free downloads, tutorials etc. are available to you. There are even some sites which offer you a free web site.
Take care though
While it is true that a large number of resources are available to learn how to design a website, a great web site on a particular browser can look clumsy on another. This is attributable to the particular software you use after you learn how to design a web site.
The Images
Images on your web site do look great and colorful. But, they also have the disadvantage of loading slowly. Most viewers expect the pages they are seeking to open up fast and if this does not happen, they will simply navigate away from that particular web site.
Keeping it simple
The web viewers are not particularly interested in your creativity or how well you have integrated your lessons on how to design a web site. They are seeking information and your web design should facilitate easy navigation and be truthful about the links provided.
Fonts
When you design a website, take care to use simple fonts in correct sizes. Oversized fonts and deep tones are harsh on the eyes and can potentially drive away the visitors.
Meta Tags and Keywords
Meta tags are important from the SEO point of view and keywords should be well spread out, both for the viewer as well as the search engines to recognize them.
Compatibility
The website you design should be compatible to all resolutions and browsers.
